Who we are and what this covers

Sowmly compares phone and accessory prices across stores in Syria, through sowmly.com and the Sowmly mobile app. This policy explains what we collect on the website and in the app, why, who we share it with and how you control it. Last updated: 7 October 2026.

Browsing without an account

You can search, compare and book without an account. We record search terms in aggregate, not linked to a person, to learn what people look for and improve results. The app keeps your preferences (language, currency, compare list) on your device only.

Your account (optional)

If you create an account we keep your name; your phone number, which we verify with a code sent over WhatsApp, or your email and password if you sign in with email (the password is stored hashed and we cannot read it); and your preferred language. An account lets you keep favourites and a shopping list and follow your bookings and price alerts across devices.

Bookings

When you request a booking we collect your name, phone number, area, expected arrival time and any note you write, with the offer you chose and its price. We pass these only to the store you chose so it can contact you, and we send the booking notice to you and to the store over WhatsApp. You get a pickup code shared only between you and the store.

Price alerts and the newsletter

When you set a price alert we keep the product, your target price and the phone number we send the WhatsApp alert to. When you join the newsletter we keep your number or email and your language. You can stop any alert or unsubscribe at any time in the app or from the link in the message.

Location

If you allow it, the app uses your location, or a city you pick, to sort offers by distance and show how far each store is. Your location is sent with a search only when needed and is not stored on your account; you can withdraw permission in your device settings at any time.

Maps and outside services

Maps are shown with Google Maps, so Google receives the map data you open under its own privacy policy. WhatsApp messages are sent through a messaging provider acting on our behalf. On the website we use Google Analytics to measure visits in aggregate; the app uses no tracking or advertising analytics.

What we do not collect

We never ask for or store card or bank details: payment happens directly between you and the store and never passes through us. We do not sell or rent your data to anyone, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

Shops and store applications

If you apply to list your store we collect the store and owner name, contact details, address, map location and a proof-of-business photo, to review the application and contact you. The proof photo is never published.

How long we keep data

We keep your account data while the account exists. Bookings are kept while active and for a limited time after, for review and dispute resolution. Sign-in codes are deleted once they expire. Newsletter subscriptions last until you unsubscribe.

Deleting your account and your rights

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Account → Settings → Delete account) or by contacting us. This permanently deletes your name, email, password, favourites, alerts and registered devices; your past bookings stay with the store, no longer linked to an account, because the store needs them to complete the booking. You can also ask for a copy of your data or a correction from our Contact page.

Security

Data travels encrypted between your device and our servers, the app keeps its sign-in token in the device's secure storage, and passwords are stored hashed. We rate-limit attempts to protect accounts.

Children

Our services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you learn that a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.

Cookies

The website uses a session cookie to remember your language and compare list, and Google Analytics cookies to measure visits. We do not use advertising tracking cookies.
